The Atlantic ranked the doctoral program in Creative Writing among the top five in the nation.
Student Highlights
Joana Carlson, a doctoral student in history, received a 2007 Fulbright Award to travel to China to examine the Chinese and Cuban revolutions during the Cold War.
Terence Milstead, a doctoral student in urban and regional planning received a 2007 Fulbright grant to travel to Vilnius, Lithuania. Milstead's research focuses on housing and urban redevelopment. Because housing in Vilnius has rapidly transitioned from state ownership to privatization, urban planning scholars are widely interested in his research.
Garrett Johnson, a graduate student in Public Administration was selected as a 2006 Rhodes Scholar.
Nathan Timpano, a doctoral student in Art History, has been awarded two prestigious national research grants for 2007-08: a Fulbright Grant to Vienna, Austria, and a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Grant to Munich, Germany. He will use the grants to conduct research for his dissertation on Austrian and German Expressionist painting.
Diversity
The first and only teaching and research organization in the country dedicated to Hispanic Marketing Communication was founded at FSU in 2004.
Black Issues in Higher Education ranked FSU 11th, nationally, in total number of Ph.D.s in the Physical Sciences (among traditionally white institutions).
Hispanic Business Magazine ranked Florida State University College of Law among the top 10 law schools in the nation for Hispanics.
The College of Engineering is ranked 6th in the U.S. in the number of master's degrees to African Americans, 9th in the number of doctoral degrees.
FSU ranks in the top 20 of doctorate-granting institutions for the number of doctorates awarded to minority students.
